The Fermi Paradox
If the universe is so vast, where is everybody?
The Fermi Paradox is the apparent contradiction between the high probability of extraterrestrial civilizations and the absence of evidence of contact with them.
Statement
Formulated by Enrico Fermi in 1950, the paradox asks: given the age and size of the universe, why have we not detected technological civilizations?
Proposed solutions
Hypotheses include the Great Filter, the Rare Earth hypothesis, the Zoo Hypothesis and the possibility that life is more common than we think but communication is harder than expected.
